A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION – A SLICE OF LIFE

New Year’s Resolution – a promise to do something differently in the new year.

I don’t set New Year’s Resolutions.  I prefer goals.  My thought is they are similar, if not the same.  The level of commitment and how realistic we are about achieving each is why they are about the same to me. They both require us to have some dedication toward them.

We need to make sure we choose a resolution or goal that is realistic to our timeline.  For example, I have known people who set a New Year’s Resolution to run a marathon in three months.  These individuals had three strikes against them at the onset.  1) Each of them hated exercising.  2) None of them exercised.  3) They took the first month off before they started to run.  Needless to say, they scrapped their New Year’s Resolution.

We don’t want to go about our resolutions in that way.  Nor do we want to reach our New Year’s Resolution like Paul.  You are about to read about him.  Our New Year’s Resolution can only involve ourselves.

Enjoy the story.  And good luck on reaching your New Year’s Resolution.

Paul New Year’s Resolution was to marry the woman of his dreams.

PAUL HELD NINE ROSES out to Leann.  Nine roses represented a symbol of eternal love.  She was the woman he would spend the rest of his life with.  He got down on one knee and looked up at her.  A lump the size of a baseball formed in his throat.  His hands were sweating as he put one in his pocket and felt the ring.  He brought it out and looked up Leann.

Paul waited until his heart slowed down and he could speak.  “I’ve loved you since I met you in the grocery store,” he said and paused and wiped away a tear.  “Will you marry me?”

Leann gasped and tried to catch her breath.  Her eyes watered.  Her expression was anything but one of joy.  She looked down and away from Paul.

Paul waited and was disappointed.  He had just humiliated himself to the woman he loved and she said nothing.

Paul stood up.  “How dare you insult me,” he said.  “You have me drive you out to a cabin in the middle of nowhere to propose.  And you do this?”  He ripped the tape off of her mouth.

“Paul,” she said, breathing hard.  She tried to move her hands and feet.  But the duct tape was on too tight.  “You kidnapped me.  I’ve never met you before.  I’m not Leann.  I’m Joni.  Joni Deepara.”

Paul squinted.  No, he thought.  “Damn it,” Paul said.  “Why were you in her kitchen?  Your hair is like hers.”

“We’re friends,” she said.  “I was housesitting for her and her husband.  You took the wrong person.”

“Now you’ve ruined my New Year’s Resolution,” he said.  “What am I going to do with you?”

I hope you enjoyed the story.

Have a Happy New Year.
